The Core Loss Tester includes a Variable Reactance Transformer (VRT) with solid state controls, a digital metering package, computer system, and test cables with quick connecting fittings. Safety fuses, over-temperature protection, interlocks, surge suppressors, and circuit breakers are present to provide maximum protection to the hardware and the operator. With a single turn of a powerstat control knob, the VRT provides an adjustable output current to excite the test core from 0 to 2000 amperes. The VRT has tremendous advantages over optional sources of power, including ease of control and self-limiting current. The state-of-the-art Lexseco meter package utilizes high resolution flux, current, and power measuring devices to provide highly accurate waveform-independent readings for the core being tested.
